The “Art Islands” which dot the Inland Sea of Japan have become world famous.  A regular Setouchi Triennale (Art Festival) has helped add to the stock of world quality art.  Artists include Yayoi Kusama, Claude Monet,  James Turrell, Hiroshi Sugimoto (photographer and sculptor), and architects Tadao Ando, and Nishizawa and Sejima (contracted to build the Sydney Modern Gallery).   These major installations of art and architecture are major features of three islands, and take advantage of the beautiful scenery of the Inland Sea of Japan.

Akio utilise these beautiful islands to spend time enjoying the fresh air, healthy food, cycling and walking.

On Teshima Island we will make use of the Eco-bikes (electric bikes) to travel around the island, although public transport is also available for those who do not want to cycle.  A hiking trail is available to the peak of the 860 metre high mountain which affords great views.  We are travel to Inujima Island and back on a day trip.

On Shodoshima Island we will walk in one of the three most beautiful gorges of Japan, the Kankakei Gorge (part of this walk is via a Ropeway).  The terraced rice fields are famous on this island and remind us of the beautiful rice paddies of Sapa in Vietnam.  If the weather is kind, a half day optional Sea Kayaking Tour is also available.

We will travel directly from Shodoshima to Kobe.
